I can only hope! I am so done with all this hurricane bullshit. I'm ready for things to get back to normal and to be able to re-stock my fridge so we can eat like normal people again.
We got a lot of wind from Ike. Way more than we expected...that thing was 3 1/2-4 hours away! I feel sorry for Galveston & Houston and surrounding areas. We lost power again last night around 11 p.m. from Hurricane Ike, but got it back by 11 a.m. I had just brought the generator back to my friends! So we rode over to their house real quick and picked it up, ran the extension cords, again! and were able to keep the fridge, light, tv, fans and 2 window AC units running. We sat outside with some neighbors til about 2 a.m. then came in and went to sleep. When I got up this morning I had gone out front and all of the neighbors were outside looking up. The power truck was in a neighbors backyard sawing off tree branches that are on some property behind the fence. I'm guessing the ones that were hitting our power lines. The people who own that land with the trees don't take care of them and think it's not their problem to cut them when needed. Asshole's!
Our gas stations are all empty. Only very few have gas left. And I have no idea when we'll get more gas. I'm sure it can't be too long.
We went to lunch today and on the way back we saw huge billows of black smoke coming from the neighborhood across from my parents neighborhood. We saw the house and turned on the street behind it. Oh my gosh, their carport was on fire and the flames were getting bigger by the second. Just as we saw it we had also seen an entergy (our power co.) truck pull away. I'm wondering if they were working on their pole and maybe encountered a hot wire touching the house or something. Either way, it was so sad.
This afternoon we just chilled at the house and Eddie and the boys played with their remote control trucks in the street. Later I went to the grocery store and got what I could. Still not much in the lunchmeat or cheese section. And the frozen section is getting stocked more now. I know in time things will be back to normal, and I can't wait.
